With all the fun and games of the MFWF, I have been remiss in not telling you about a lovely weekend we spent a few weeks ago with great friends Bubblezz and the adventurous P. They have a lovely home in Barwon Heads on the Bellarine Peninsula, so one weekend we toddled down there to partake in our own little seachange – just for a couple of days. As part of our lovely weekend away, wonderful friend Bubblezz and I had a very energetic… well let’s say it was more leisurely… bike ride from Barwon Heads into Ocean Grove. It wasn’t a long jaunt… just enough to get the appetite up, oh – and check out a local eatery!
So just over 5km, and about 20 minutes later, we found ourselves in the more bustling and active town centre of Ocean Grove, and parked ourselves up against the railing of the lovely café Napona.
We started proceedings with some beautiful coffee. It was so lovely, I asked what beans they use and apparently they use a little known boutique brand called Mahalia based in South Australia. Gorgeous!
The menu is rather limited with only seven choices, but what is on offer is very good. Bubblezz and I, feeling super elite athetic, decided to have slow poached eggs rather than the fried ones on the menu – and they were gorgeous. You’ve got to love the gently gellified yolk of a slow cooked egg! The bacon was really tasty, I absolutely adore avocado, and the tomato added some nice freshness to the dish. The real surprise element was the bread – which was delightfully spongey!
On the whole, Napona is a lovely place for breakfast down on the Bellarine Peninsula. Also open for lunch everyday, and dinner Tuesday through Saturday. But for now, we’re back on the bike for a lovely toddle home….
