My good friend, Rowena from She Rides Cycling, and I were long overdue for a catchup breakfast. When I gave her a few options for breakfast, she nominated Milkwood, as she hadn’t had a chance to try it out yet. Given she is on a gluten free diet – I thought it was a good option – as the lovely Milkwood has an array of gluten free options for people.
I reviewed Milkwood just recently (see post here) – so this entry will be short and sweet – just to let you know what we had and what it was like.
Even though the pancakes are so very good – I wanted to keep it a bit lighter today, and so opted for the mushrooms…
These mushrooms were amazing!! Not only were they cooked beautifully with a gorgeous mushroomy flavour – there was lemon zest through it. This gave it a real aromatic lift and complemented the dish wonderfully. The ricotta was smooth, creamy and luscious – and the sourdough bread was chewy and dense. A fantastic dish!
The wonderful Rowena was disciplined and had her gluten free cinammon toast – which she thought was pretty good. Although she did also succumb to a pretty serious chocolate brownie which she’d had her eye on in the cake display since she walked in the cafe!!
Anyway – this is fast shaping up to be a bit of a favourite cafe for breakfast for me, and it’s clearly popular with a lot of people. It’s a good thing they have an overflow room next door, because it wasn’t long before the place was packed! Milkwood is a very groovy café that deserves every success!
